I am reading through Perry v. Schwarzenegger, the long-awaited decision on the fate of California’s Prop 8. As it turns out, the opinion is a 136-page intolerant rant on the evils of intolerance.
Check out this jaw dropper:
“Civil law has always been supreme in defining and regulating marriage…Any clerics, ministers, rabbis, et cetera, that were accustomed to performing marriages only do so because the state has given them the authority to do that.”
Wait a minute…I thought Al Gore invented marriage?
Seriously though, if the state is the sole and final arbiter of the intimate, life-long relationship that is the basis of human society then Toto…we’re not in Kansas anymore.
